To prepare volunteers for when they are approached by enquiring citizens, the following are some of the questions that may be asked:

ENGLISH VERSION

Q: Will the government take away my citizenship if I do not vote?

A: No, there is no such law.

Q: What if I am registered as a voter but I do not vote at all, will I lose my citizenship?

A: No, voting in Malaysia is voluntary not mandatory by law

Q: Why must I vote if voting is voluntary or if there is no law to take away my citizenship?

A: It is your right to choose the government you want. Why would you want to give up the right to choose the future for your future generations.

Q: When is the next general election?

A: Only PM knows the answer. It is by law that the general elections take place at least once every 5 years, although it could come anytime earlier if seen fit by the PM and agreed by Parliament.

Q: Where do I vote?

A: If you are registered, go to www.spr.gov.my website and key in IC number and the polling location will be displayed. Toward the election period, you will receive a notice letter with regard to your specific polling station address.

Q: If I register now, where do I vote?

A: The place you will be voting will follow your IC address.

Q: My IC address is not in (CURRENT BOOTH LOCATION), can I register here?

A: Yes you can, We register nationwide.

Q: I voted somewhere else before; can I change to vote in (NEW LOCATION)?

A: If your IC address is listed as (NEW LOCATION) address, then Yes. Please see the SPR officer for change. If SPR officers not around, advise to go to a post office or an SPR office. (www.spr.gov.my)

A: If your IC address is the old address, then no. You must first go to National Registration Department (IC department) to either update the address in the MyKad chip or change a new IC. Then go to post office or SPR office to change the voting station down to your current location.

Q: I do not know who to vote for even if I register?

A: It does not matter if you know who to register for now or not, you register to ensure that you have a choice when the time comes. If you cannot make up your mind at the end of the day then you can choose not to vote for anybody. However if a candidate worthy of your vote appears, at least you can choose to vote then.

Q: If I register now, when can I vote?

A: You must allow at least 3 months for your particulars to be recorded in SPR voters register. As long as the state assembly or the parliament is dissolved after your name appears in the voter register, you will be able to cast your vote.

Q: Will I be informed where to vote?

A: No, you must go to www.spr.gov.my website and key in IC number and the polling location will be displayed.

Q: Can I check whether I am registered as a voter myself any time?

A: Yes, just go to www.spr.gov.my website and key in IC number and the polling location will be displayed.

Q: I voted before, but in the last election they told me my name is not in the register?

A: You can check it online at www.spr.gov.my anytime. If your record can not be found, then you must register again.

Q: Why does it seem that eventhough I have registered so many times there is still no record of me in the SPR register?

A: Sorry, we do not know the answer as we are volunteers. You just keep registering until you are registered. If you register through us, we will keep a copy of your particular and we will check for you if you call us after 3 months that you still do not see your particulars on SPR website.

Q: Can I register myself online at SPR website?

A: No. You can only register at post office, SPR office or booth like this.

STRANGE RELEVANT QUESTIONS

Q: If I register and choose not to vote, I am afraid ‘certain parties’ will use my identity to vote for their own candidates. What do I do then?

A:What makes you think that by not registering that the same would not happen? That is why you must stay in control of your right to vote and vote based on merit a candidate that you find is worthy.

MALAY VERSION

S: Boleh saya hilang kerakyatan jika saya tidak berundi?

J: Tidak, Tiada akta yang boleh buat demikian.

S: Boleh saya hilang kerakyatan jika saya tidak berundi setelah berdaftar sabagai pengundi?

J: Tidak, Awak tidak semestinya berundi walau pun awak sudak berdaftar.

S: Jika tiada akta yang boleh saya hilang kerakyatan jika saya tidak berundi atau undi adalah secara sukarela sahaja, mengapa saya hendak pergi berundi?

J: Ini adalah hak awak untuk memilih kerajaan yang awak suka. Mengapa awak sudi membuang hak awak untuk menentukan harapan bagi generasi yang akan datang?

S: Bilakah pilihan raya umum ke 13 akan diadakan?

J: Jawapan ini hanya PM yang tahu. Pilihan raya

S: Di mana saya berundi?

J: Jika awak sudah berdaftar, lawat laman web www.spr.gov.my dengan memasuki nombor kad pengenalan awak dan tempat berundi akan dipamerkan.

S: Jika saya berdaftar sekarang, di mana kah saya berundi?

J: Tempat berundi untuk awak adalah tempat yang paling dekat dengan alamat dalam kad pengenalan awak .

S: Alamat dalam kad pengenalan saya bukan di (LOKASI), boleh kah saya berdaftar di sini?

J: Boleh, kami buat pendaftaran bagi seluruh negara .

S: Saya pernah berundi ditempat lain, bolehkah saya tukar tempat undi di (lokasi)sini?

J: Jika alamat dalam kad pengenalan adalah alamat (lokasi) sini, awak boleh mengemaskini rekod SPR melalui pejabat POS, SPR  atau perkhidmatan parti seperti ini.

J: Jika alamat dalam kad pengenalan adalah alamat lama, awak mesti pergi Pejabat Pendaftar Negara untuk megemaskini alamat dalam chip Mykad awak atau menukar MyKad baru dahulu. Selepas itu, awak boleh mengemaskini rekod SPR melalui pejabat POS, SPR atau perkhidmatan parti seperti ini.

S: Saya tidak tahu nak undi siapa?

J: Tiada masalah jika anda tahu siapa yang harus mendaftar sekarang atau tidak, anda mendaftar untuk memastikan bahawa anda mempunyai pilihan bila waktunya tiba. Jika anda tidak boleh membuat fikiran anda pada akhir hari maka anda boleh memilih untuk tidak memilih siapa pun. Namun, jika calon yang layak suara anda muncul, anda dapat memilihnya.

S: Jika saya berdaftar sekarang, bila saya boleh berundi?

J: SPR akan memgambil masa sekurang kurangnya 3 bulan untuk memasuki peribadi awak dalam daftar pengundi. Jika pilihan raya kecil atau umum berada selepas peribadi awak di masuki daftar pengundi, awak layak berundi .

S: SPR akan memberitahu saya mana tempat saya berundi?

J: Tidak. Awak mesti lawat laman web www.spr.gov.my dengan memasuki nombor kad pengenalan awak dan tempat berundi akan dipamerkan .

S: Bolehkan saya kenalpasti adakah saya suduah berdaftar sebagain pengundi?

J: Ya boleh. Awak mesti lawat laman web www.spr.gov.my dengan memasuki nombor kad pengenalan awak dan tempat berundi akan dipamerkan .

S: Saya pernah berdaftar tetapi pada pilihan raya umum yang lepas saya di beritahu nama saya tidak di dalam daftar pengundi?

J: Awak boleh kenalpasti pendaftaran awak dengan melawati laman web www.spr.gov.my dengan memasuki nombor kad pengenalan awak dan tempat berundi akan dipamerkan. Jika rekod awak tidak ditemui, awak mesti berdaftar semula.

S: Saya sudah berdaftar beberapa kali bagaimana hingga sekarang saya masih bukan seorang pengundi mengikuti SPR?

J: Minta maaf. Kami tiada jawapan untuk awak. Kami menasihat awak berdaftar hingga nama awak ditemui dalam daftar SPR. Jika awak berdaftar melalui kami, kami akan simpan sesalinan borang pendaftaran untuk mengenal pasti adakah nama awak telah didaftar 3 bulan selepas jika awak meminta tolong kami.

S: Bolehkah saya berdaftar dengan SPR online?

J: Tidak boleh. Awak mesti berdaftar melalui pejabat POS, SPR atau perkhidmatan parti seperti ini.

SOALAN PELIK YANG BERKAITAN

S: Jika saya mendaftar dan memilih untuk tidak memilih, saya takut ‘pihak-pihak tertentu’ akan menggunakan identiti saya untuk memilih calon sendiri. Apakah saya boleh buat?

J: Apa yang membuatmu berfikir bahawa kalau anda tidak mendaftar perkara yang sama tidak akan berlaku. Itulah sebab anda harus tetap memegang atas hak anda untuk memilih dan memilih berdasarkan prestasi calon yang anda mendapati layak.
